Hey there! I'm Evan ​:)
My journey with nature began amidst the camaraderie of Boy Scouts, where I discovered a deep-seated love for hiking, backpacking, and the preservation of our natural world. This passion grew into a lifelong commitment when I ventured to Arcata, CA, for college. Nestled along the mesmerizing redwood coast, I found myself engulfed in the beauty of towering forests and embraced by a community dedicated to environmental stewardship. It was here, amidst the whispers of ancient trees, that my connection to the wilderness truly flourished.

In 2023, I embarked on an unforgettable journey: a thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail. As I traversed rugged terrain and weathered California's highest-recorded snowpack, every step reinforced my reverence for the untamed beauty that surrounds me.

While not working on candles, you'll often find me immersed in the great outdoors, whether it's navigating winding trails, tranquil currents of local rivers in my kayak, or strolling leisurely along the peaceful canals in my neighborhood. These moments rejuvenate my spirit and inspire the scents that infuse my candles with a touch of the wilderness.
Where it Started
Backcountry Candles Company has been years in the making. I began making candles in late 2016 as Christmas gifts, using repurposed jelly jars, canning jars, and later wine and beer bottles. I never imagined turning this hobby into a business, but with the encouragement of family and friends who received my candles as gifts, Backcountry Candles was born.

Throughout this journey, I sought a purpose for my business. I discovered it during my thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2023. My love for the backcountry deepened, and I wanted to help preserve trails like this for future generations. I also aim for my candles to reflect the elements of our environment and bring the outdoors inside.
​I understand that everyone will interpret my candles differently, but I hope they spark joy and evoke memories of memorable trips. Additionally, with every purchase, you are supporting the preservation of our national parks, trails, and wildlands for future generations.
