Candle Care Tips and Tricks

For your safety and enjoyment, please take the time to read about the proper care and burning instructions for your candle. We want to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable experience with all of our products.

Properly burning and caring for your candle will ensure a pleasant experience and help it last for a long time.

Before Burning
  • Your candle will be delivered with a wick trimmed to 1/4 inch. Before every burn, make sure you trim your wick to 1/4 inch. This will ensure a proper burn every time, keep your flames at an appropriate height, and reduce candle soot.

  • Avoid areas with drafts, around vents, or fans. This will help prevent the candle from burning rapidly and unevenly.

Buring Durations
  • Make sure your first burn creates a mostly complete wax pool. Depending on your environment, this can take anywhere between 2-3 hours. This will prevent tunneling or leaving excess wax around the edges.

  • Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours. This is for safety reasons, so do not overuse the candle and potentially damage the vessel.

While Burning
  • Never leave your candle unattended or lit while sleeping. If you need to leave the room or the candle unattended, extinguish it fully.

  • Never touch or move your candle when it is lit. The vessel can be very hot, and liquefied wax can spill and burn.

  • Never burn your candle all the way down. Stop burning your candle when you reach the last 1/4 inch of the wick.

  • If you are burning multiple candles, make sure to burn them 3 inches or more apart. This ensures that the radiant heat from each candle does not accelerate the burning process or create its own draft.

  • Your candle flame should be at most 1 inch high. If your candle becomes any higher than 1 inch or starts flickering uncontrollably, extinguish it immediately. Let the wax cool, trim the wick to 1/8-1/4 inch, and re-light.

  • It might seem nice to have a candle to provide light during a power outage. However, it can be stressful during these times, and we recommend you use battery-operated candles or flashlights for your safety.

  • Keep your candle away from anything flammable, such as drapes, bedding, paper, books, decorations, carpets, and other items. It is best to keep a 12-inch defensible space around your candle.

  • Keep your candle out of reach of pets and children. Make sure you do not place your candle on the edge of any furniture or an area that it can easily be knocked over.

Extiguishing Your Candle
  • The best way to extinguish your candle is by using a candle snuffer. This will allow for proper extinguishing and limit any splattering of wax.

  • Never use water to extinguish your candle. This will splatter wax and possibly break the candle vessel.

  • Before leaving your candle unattended, make sure it is completely extinguished. You want to double-check that there is no glow or smoke coming from the wick.

  • Please do not touch or move the candle until it is completely cooled and the wax has solidified.
